Monsters

General Notes

Ninji

Scarlatti

Ninji's slumber ability ("Z" key) makes him invulnerable to attack, but the effect is cancelled if he moves.
Scarlatti cannot be detected by monsters while under a rug, but if she attacks them while in that state, they will counter-attack.

To attack a monster, attempt to move your player to the same square as the monster, as though the monster was an object that you could push.

All monsters will acquire a target if that target comes within their range of sight. Once a target has been acquired, the monster will continue to chase that player until death or until the monster can no longer detect that player - even if that target is no longer the current player. If you hear a yelp and there are no monsters around you, your other player may be getting attacked.

Monsters can attack diagonally.

Usually monsters cannot move through the following: Water, Walls, or any Object. There are exceptions, however.

"Gold Mouse"

Passes through Table, Fence

Can defeat this monster in 2 hits.

Can defeat this monster in 3 hits.

"Sting Ray"

Flying monster; passes over any terrain

Can defeat this monster in 2 hits.

Can defeat this monster in 5 hits.

"Punk Frog"

Extra strong; passes over Water

Can defeat this monster in 6 hits.

Scarlatti should never attempt to fight this monster.

A STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO FINISHING LEVEL ONE
  • Walk up and push the food into the bowl.
  • Walk back down until you see an opening to the right.
  • Turn up into the next hallway.
  • Push the Block into the Water, then walk across the Sunken Block.
  • Push the food into the bowl.
  • Go back down to the long hallway and continue right.
  • Turn up into the next hallway.
  • Push the center table two squares upward.
  • Move around the table and push the food into the bowl.
  • Go back down to the long hallway and continue right until you reach the end of it.
  • Turn up into the next hallway. There's a rug in front of the entrance but you can walk over it since you're controlling Ninji.
  • Push the food into the bowl.
  • Ninji has done his job in this level. Give him a break by switching players. Press 'P' to switch over to Scarlatti.
  • With Scarlatti, walk down and push the food into the bowl.
  • Walk up into the long hallway. This is the same hallway you were in when you controlled Ninji. In fact, keep going up and say hello to him.
  • It seems Scarlatti has gotten herself stuck in the rug. Don't worry, you can move, as long as you're moving to a square that does not contain rug.
  • In other words, walk back down into the hall, and continue left. Turn down into the next room.
  • There are three toys in this room. Push one of them down two squares, then move around it so you can push the food in the bowl.
  • In the next room, a fence is your obstacle. Scarlatti can move right under it. Push the food in the bowl.
  • In the final room, six tables block your path. Not a problem for Scarlatti. Move under the tables and fill the last bowl.
  • If you haven't done this already, move to the center of the level with either cat (Press 'P' if you'd prefer to use Ninji) and push together the pieces of the Communal Waterdish.
  • Once you do this, you'll hear a tone. If you don't, enter all the rooms and make sure that there are no empty bowls.
  • Hit any key to advance to the next level. Congratulations, you have beaten level one.

SPOILERS

Level 2: Use Ninji to create an opening in the blocks. Then go through the fence with Scarlatti and come back down the left side of the level to create an opening in the toys for Ninji.

Level 3: This requires careful cat teamwork. Beware sting rays! Where one cat waits for the other can be important.

Level 4: A tactic you should know is that although Scarlatti cannot walk across rug herself, Ninji can push her across. Take care of food before CWD (Communal Water Dish).

Level 5: Again, food before CWD. Don't cut off all your routes!

Level 6: Sleep can be very beneficial! There's no rug here, so once a Punk Frog sees Scarlatti, it'll chase her forever; good thing she’s fast! Let Ninji do what he can while she distracts those pesky frogs. Don’t even try to kill them all – you’ll have better luck if you avoid injuring the cats. Remember that you can slow down monsters by moving Ninji in their path and commanding him to sleep. This level takes a long time to complete but isn't that difficult.

Level 7: Find the food dishes – they do exist! Again, team work is essential. But Ninji has to finish the level alone. Where you build the CWD is important.

Level 8: Think out of the box on this one! Use Scarlatti to distract the Punk Frogs into moving where Ninji wants them and vice versa with Ninji and the Golden Mice. If you need the mice to stop following Scarlatti, have her visit the small patch of rug - hiding under rug will cause all the enemies in the level to lose sight of her. You don’t need to kill any frogs or mice if you are able to trap them. And putting together the CWD isn’t as hard as you think.

Level 9: This is hard because the landscape is so big and there are so many options. Make a map! You don’t need to visit the islands where the bad guys start out. But you DO need to spring Scarlatti – she needs to get all of the CWD pieces. There aren’t extra black stones, so don’t waste them! Have Ninji go up first, and then work his way towards the bottom right; he needs to put two stones in the water next to each other to get to the islands just above Scarlatti. Ninji needs to get to the island where Scarlatti starts out; both cats must work together to get the food in the dish. Where one cat waits is again important. The islands with the CWD fragments on them should all be bridged to with tables since only Scarlatti needs to visit those islands.

Level 10: A map is helpful for this, too. Be careful at the beginning, as positions and sequence are crucial. Your greatest obstacle in this level is conserving your health.
